encouraged to live fully beyond loss and adversity
About Harriet
My Challenges and Growth
Developmental Challenges: When my middle daughter was diagnosed with neurological issues, I was profoundly helped by a gifted therapist and a support group leader for parents of children with disabilities. These experiences renewed my hope and inspired me to return to school for a master’s degree in social work.
Cancer Diagnosis: Facing my own cancer diagnosis has deepened my empathy and commitment to guiding others through their toughest challenges. When faced with a cancer diagnosis, I focused on coping and getting through treatment by embracing positive psychology and Viktor Frankl's teachings. I developed coping strategies, such as creating coping cards with inspirational quotes and intentionally bringing joy into my daily life.
Instead of joining a support group, I found a unique therapist who resonated with me through her focus on creativity, nature, and mindfulness. She became a wonderful healer during my cancer journey, and we worked together for two years.
Through it all, I sought joy and beauty, staying focused on the present and appreciating the good in my life. This approach has shaped my practice and my commitment to helping others navigate their own challenges.
"He who has a 'why' to live,
can bear with almost any 'how'"
— Nietzsche
Professional Evolution
For over 20 years, I worked in the school system, balancing my career with raising my three young children as a single parent. After retiring, or as I prefer to say, moved on, I transitioned to private practice as a therapist, group facilitator, and speaker.
Personal Fulfillment
I have been happily remarried for decades, enjoying travel, hiking, ballroom dancing, nature, and time with my grandchildren. Staying engaged in what I love and maintaining a curious, open, and growth-oriented mindset has made aging a gift. Dr. Viktor Frankl’s work in logotherapy and positive psychology have been guiding influences in my work and life.
